LOCAL TENNIS PLAYERS TAKE TWO TITLES

Boy's 14 Singles Boy's 16 Finals Boy's 18 Finals Girl's 16 Finals

Ocean City, MD () – Ocean City Tennis Center saw the junior’s take over the courts on June 14 & 15, with the first Junior Tournament of the season. Players from as far away as Pennsylvania played for four titles up for grabs.

In the Girls 16 Singles Dominique Kunciw, Worcester Prep took the crown surrendering only two games in the round-robin format. With a 2-0 record her key win came with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over second place Katherine Jefferys, Parkton. Jefferys secured second place with a victory over Katherine Roe, Lutherville.

Local standout Ted Cooke of Snow Hill High School took the Boy’s 18 crown with a 6-1, 6-1victory over Josh Hicks-Kachik. Hicks-Kachik had to overcome Courtney Parker 6-2, 6-2 for second place.

The Boy’s 16 Tournament saw Kyle Butler, Columbia, take the title over Nolan Bacchieri, Kennett square, PA, In the Boy’s 16 Consolations Max Levine, Forest Hill had to come back from a first set lost to Tyler Priebe, St. Pauls HS, 5-7, 6-2, 6-3.

The Boy’s 14 Tournament saw Alexander Katz, Chevy Chase, successfully defend his #1 seed with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Chase Weinberg, Ellicott City. The 14’s Consolation finals saw Colin Butler, Columbia, win a hard fought three set 6-2, 0-6, 7-5 over Brent Weinberg.

“The summers first Delmarva Junior Tournament offered the kids the fun of the beach and good competition during the tournament”, stated Rod Dulany, Ocean City Tennis Director.

There is two more junior tournaments scheduled for the 2008 season. On July 26 is the Futures One-Day shootout Tournament and on August 8-10 is the 6th Annual Ocean City Junior Open. Entry forms can be gotten at the Ocean City Tennis Center on 61st Street.

Men's Open - Ocean City Tennis

MacBride Breezes to Victory in Eastern Shore Tennis Championships

Even in the hot weather, Dexter MacBride held up his number 1 seed defeating Jason Cohen 6-2, 6-1 in the finals played at the Ocean City Tennis Center. MacBride stayed focused during the entire finals with an overpowering serve and aggressive volley to break service 5 times for the Men’s Open Championship

To reach the finals MacBride, Rockville, overcame Ireland’s Craig Healy 6-0, 6-0. In the other half of the draw Cohen, Lutherville Timonium, survived a 7-5, 6-4 match with Snow Hill’s Ted Cooke.

The Men’s Open Consolation Singles finals saw Michael Barbour, LaPlata, take the title in a tight 7-5, 6-4 match over Justin Daily, LaPlata. To reach the final, Barbour took his semi-final match over Andrew Mohr, Berlin, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1. Daily won the other semi-finals from Kevin Ruefly, Oklahoma, 4-6, 6-1, 6-1.

The Men’s 50 & Over Singles went to George Webb who dominated the round-robin play. Webb lost a total of 5 games in the event with wins over Scott Triplett, Middleburg, 6-2, 6-0 and Bruce Biederman, Laurel, 6-1, 6-2. Bruce Biedermann took second place by defeating Scott Triplett in a tight 6-3, 6-3 match.
